There’s no single way to fix the water quality problems we’re facing in the watershed. But, if you help – if we all help and work together – we can make small changes that will have a huge impact.
Here are some ideas and information to get us started.
- Establish a Buffer Planting to help Stabilize Banks and keep nutrients out the waterways
- Plant a Pollinator Garden
- Plant a Rain Garden
- Control Invasive Species that are out-competing beneficial native plants
- Boat responsibly and follow Clean Drain and Dry guidelines before entering another body of water
- Support your Local Greeter/Boat Wash Station
- Fertilize at most once a year with Phosphorus Free Fertilizers to help prevent Algae Blooms
- Reduce or eliminate the use of Pesticides and Herbicides
- Reduce the size of your Lawn and mow to a height of 3”
- Control Run Off
- Maintain your Septic System
- Clean up after your Pets
- Do not flush Medications
- Wash your Car on the lawn not pavement
- Become a VIP (Vermont Invasive Patroller)
- Become a VIPA (Vermont Invasive Patroller Animals)
- Become a Lay Monitor
- Become a Cyanobacteria (Blue Green Algae) Monitor
- Support MWA
