Sunday, February 26,2023 10:00 am The snow cooperated, and Memphremagog Trails had groomed the ski trails at the Bluffside Farm, now owned and managed by the Vermont Land Trust (VLT).  The groomed ski trails meander through forest and agricultural lands along the shores of Lake Memphremagog at the Bluffside Farm. Twenty or more us enjoyed learning of the wildlife habitats, the origin of the invasive species and the control that must occur before any extensive forest management on the farm. We saw evidence of beaver and saw porcupine activity and learned that Bald Eagles rotate nesting sites to control parasites. We discussed the plight of our native ash species and their possible recovery. The history and geographical background – the lake’s glacial formation and soil deposits as well as the effects human activity has on the landscape – helped explain conditions along trail. It was fun and informative.
