Improvements to Stormwater Infrastructure
MWA and the City of Newport have teamed up to construct the Newport Marina Stormwater Improvement Project near the former Numia Medical Building and Newport Marina off Lake Road. This project has been in the planning stages for several years and we are now breaking ground. When complete, a gravel treatment wetland will prevent up to 19 lbs. of phosphorus from entering the Lake every year. A GeoProbe™ drilling rig bores soil cores from over 15-feet deep near the Newport Marina off Farrant St and Lake Rd. The cores will help designers evaluate the substrate quality and geotechnic stability of the site in preparation for an underground hydrodynamic stormwater separator unit to be installed prior to a proposed gravel treatment wetland. This work is funded by Watersheds United Vermont under a VT DEC Design-Implementation Block Grant.
